Research Assistant Professor

Xiaofeng Ren

Dr. Ren's main research interests lie broadly in the areas of computer vision and artificial intelligence. His dissertation work focused on the empirical study and computational modeling of mid-level vision, including contour completion, region segmentation, and figure/ground organization. He developed a unified random field framework for mid-level vision and presented promising quantitative results on large datasets of natural images. He also worked in the area of object recognition, in particular on finding people in images and video.

Ren enjoys working on problems which, like vision, have both deep scientific roots and revolutionary practical implications. He plans to continue his endeavor in computer vision, to develop insights and techniques into building a general vision system to parse images into regions and contours as well as objects and their parts. He also looks forward to collaborations in other domains of artificial intelligence.

Dr. Ren also has a personally maintained website which can be found at http://www.tti-c.org/ren
