Faculty - Dr. Cristian Sminchisescu
PhD - Imaging, Vision, and Robotics, INRIA, France
Adjunct Assistant Professor
Professor Sminchisescu received an MSc. in Systems Simulation and Modeling from Polytechnic Institute in Romania in 1997 and an MSc. in Computer Science from Rutgers University in 1999. He obtained a doctorate in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics with a specialization in Imaging, Vision, and Robotics from INRIA, France, in 2002. During 2003-2004 he was as a research fellow in the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at the University of Toronto.
Sminchisescu is probably best known for his mathematical modeling work at the confluence of computer vision and machine learning. This includes probabilistic models and non-linear optimization and sampling algorithms with applications to three-dimensional human motion analysis (reconstruction and recognition in monocular video sequences), object detection and recognition. Professor Sminchisescu has been in the program committees for conference like NIPS, ICCV, CVPR, ECCV and SIGGRAPH, and serves as a regular reviewer for journals like IEEE PAMI, IJCV and CVIU. He holds visiting faculty appointments and co-supervises graduate students at the University of Toronto and at Rutgers University.
Dr. Sminchisescu also has a personally maintained website which can be found at http://www.tti-c.org/sminchisescu
